At least 250 coaches and 130 wagons have been rehabilitated and refurbished by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) under its facilities refurbishment programme. Besides, the corporation is expected to take delivery of unspecified number of new coaches for the standard gauge line from Abuja to Kaduna which is billed to commence operations between February and March.

Managing Director of the corporation, Engr. Adeseyi Sijuwade, disclosed this at the weekend during a tour of security formations at the flagship Ido railway terminus in Lagos. The brief ceremony also witnessed the decoration of two senior police officers from railway command who were recently promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police. They were ACPs Abel Audu and Chinaka Chinedu. Sijuwade was accompanied on the tour by management team of the corporation as well as the Railway police command led by Commissioner of Police Pius Uebari Imue where the team inspected various security measures put in place for smooth operations at the terminus. The managing director who described the security apparatuses in place as impressive, disclosed that the continuous refurbishment programme was aimed at boosting passengers comfort especially on the Lagos - Kano passenger' train.
