Aviation Authority To Introduce Tracking Equipment For Domestic Airlines

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has said it will soon make the installation of tracking equipment in aircraft a compulsory exercise for every airline operating in the country.

According to the aviation authority, the tracking equipment will help capture movements of the aircraft and relay same to the regulatory body.

This move by the NCAA, is in line with the new International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) policy, prompted by the disappearance of Malaysia Airline flight MH370 early last.

Following several mishaps recorded in 2014, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and ICAO have come up with a new rule that would require civil aviation authorities across the globe to make it compulsory for every aircraft to have the tracking equipment and also ensure that the aircraft are monitored.

To this end, it was gathered that the NCAA would soon install more sophisticated tracking equipment at the airports, which will force airlines to install monitoring equipment in their aircraft, in order to operate.
