Maiduguri — The Maiduguri International Airport is to reopen for commercial flights Friday, nearly two years after it was shutdown, Deputy Governor of Borno State, Zanna Umar Mustapha, said yesterday.
He said the first commercial flight would land at the airport on Friday, assuring that all arrangements had been put in place to ensure hitch-free operations at the facility.
Mustapha said the state government had received a copy of the letter which conveyed the Chief of Air Staff's clearance for the airport authorities to reopen it for commercial purposes.
The Maiduguri airport was closed on 2nd December, 2013 when Boko Haram terrorists destroyed some equipment at the premises shortly after they overrun the nearby 79 Composite Group of the Nigerian Air Force.
