Commuters and motorists were yesterday held in a gridlock for several hours along the Abuja-Lokoja highway as truck drivers blocked the Jamata axis of the road to protest alleged assault of one their members by security agents.
Daily Trust learnt that the protest ensued after a military operative allegedly shot the tyres of a truck over misunderstanding with its driver.
It was further gathered that other truck drivers, in solidarity, quickly mobilised and used their vehicles to block both sides of the highway, bringing traffic to a halt and commuters stranded for hours.
It took the intervention of Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, who was on his way to Abuja at the time, before sanity was restored on the highway.
The governor called on road users and security operatives to always resolve issues amicably without causing a hindrance on the highway and putting other road users through unnecessary stress.
