The promoters of the multi-billion naira new Lekki deep seaport in Lagos have said the project will be ready in 2019.

The assurance of the promoters is coming on the heels of the commencement of construction works at the project site.

The promoters, Lekki Port Lagos Free Trade Zone Enterprise (LFTZ), who revealed this in Lagos said the N325 billion project would generate employment and other benefits into the economy.

The Managing Director of Lekki Port, Haresh Aswani, said the total value of the marine and land infrastructure for the port stood at N156 billion.

He added that the contractors for the project, the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contractors, China Harbour Engineering LFTZ Enterprise, have already received an advance payment of N1.42 billion from the Lagos State Government.

Aswani said: “Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise (LPLE) is issuing the notice-to-proceed to our EPC Contractor to commence full construction activities for Lekki Deep Seaport situated within LFTZ in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.”

According to him, this is a major milestone on the project that marks the beginning of the 41-month construction period for the largest maritime project in Nigeria.
