NCAA to Register Aviation Fuel Marketers to Avoid Substitution of Jet A1 with Kerosene

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, on Sunday, September 13, said it would soon kick off registration of all the aviation fuel marketers, follow recent allegation that some marketers sell household kerosene as Jet A1,

The NCAA’s Director-General, Muhtar Usman, revealed that the regulatory authority has finished arrangement for the registration exercise.

It would be recalled that some airline operators recently raised an alarm over alleged substitution of kerosene for aviation fuel popularly known as Jet A1, though fuel marketers have debunked the allegations.

Industry experts said Jet A1 or aviation fuel is kerosene in its purest form, different from the household kerosene, pointing out that domestic kerosene could affect engine performance of an aircraft.

Usman said: “It is expected that all existing aviation fuel suppliers will be required to register and regularize their operations with the NCAA while new entrants will file fresh application with the same requirements.”

He tasked the relevant departments and officials of the authority to as a matter of urgency hold a meeting with the marketers and all the stakeholders to sensitize them on the guidelines and requirements for registration.
