Travellers Stranded As ‎protesting Truck Drivers Block Okene-Lokoja Road

Some protesting truck drivers have blocked the Okene-Lokoja road in Kogi state, leaving many travellers and other road users stranded since Wednesday night.

The drivers are protesting the alleged killing of their colleagues by a policeman at a check point along the road on Wednesday.

One of the travellers told Daily Trust by phone that the policeman allegedly shot the driver for refusing to give him bribe.

He said on getting wind of the killing of their colleagues, other truck drivers on the road mobilised themselves and blocked the road in protest.

Some of those stranded are officials of federal ministry of communications who are on their way to Ibadan, Oyo State for a retreat.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has advised motorists to avoid using the Lokoja/Okene road and use alternative route saying the route had been blocked "because of some security issues.
