Aviation Unions, Arik Reach Truce

Aviation unions and Arik Air have reached a compromise a day after the operation of the airline was disrupted by a strike on workers' welfare.

Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Musa Nuhu, presided over the meeting with the union leaders and management of Arik in attendance.

The unions comprising the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) have agreed to suspend the action.

General Secretary of NUATE, Comrade Ocheme Aba said, "The meeting ended well and we have agreed to suspend the strike."

Arik Air resumed normal flight operations after Monday's disruption with hundreds of its passengers stranded nationwide.

Manager, PR & Communications, Adebanji Ola said, "All our early morning flights for Tuesday, 15 September, 2020 operated in and out of Lagos on schedule and all other flights for the day will operate as scheduled."
