The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Monday, said it had begun a probe into allegations of an evacuation racket laid against some of its staffers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja.

The airport staffers were accused of collecting fees from arriving passengers, and to assist intending passengers under the guise of evacuation flights.

General Manager, Corporate Affairs FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, said the Authority was not unaware of the allegation, and had begun moves to unravel the claims.

Yakubu, however, urged the general public to be aware that FAAN offers no fee-for-service at the airports, and travellers should desist from giving money to officials.

She equally urged passengers to report any official, from any agency that requests money under any guise, including COVID-19 tests and screening.

She said: “The Authority will like to inform passengers and other airport users that there is no aspect of its services at the airports that is being paid for by cash.

“Arriving passengers are expected to have gone through the COVID-19 test before boarding their flights from ports of departure, therefore they should not pay any money whatsoever to any airport official for the purpose.

“All COVID-19 measures put in place at the airports are free for passengers and do not attract any charges,” Yakubu said.
