The International Air Trans­port Association, IATA , has revealed hat global passenger traffic results in June year-to-year showed a 5.7 per cent leap  in demand compared to June 2014.

However, IATA stated that Africa recorded a two per cent drop in the review period, due to negative economic develop­ments in parts of the continent in­cluding Nigeria, which relies heav­ily on oil revenues.

Capacity in the continent also fell by 1.7 per cent and load fac­tor dropped 0.2 per cent points to 67.1 Per cent. That was the fifth time in 2015 that passengers and load traf­fic would dip in the continent.

IATA however noted that the global traffic was a drag com­pared to the 6.9% year-over-year growth recorded in May, which the association attributed to the tim­ing of Ramadan, which depressed travel demand in the Middle East.

June capacity (available seat kilometers or ASKs) soared 6 per cent and load factor fell 0.2 per cent points to 81.1 per cent.

According to the Director-General, IATA, Tony Tyler, June was another healthy month for demand for air connectivity, al­though slower trade activity in emerging Asia-Pacific markets and the impact of the Greek debt crisis on European travel remain worrisome.
