Mr. Bankole Muneer, the Managing Director of Medview airlines was announced the winner of the Balafon Awards for Aviation Personality of the year for Nigeria 2016/2017. The Aviation Personality award that specially recognizes outstanding individuals in West Africa who have immensely contributed to the growth of aviation and its operations within the West African sub region in the last one year.

The Balafon Award committee made up of Travel Professionals and Journalists from Nigeria and Ghana approved the results for the best performers in Travel and Tourism West Africa.

The committee had earlier met and shortlisted Nominees for the Different award categories. The shortlisted Nominees were then exposed to public votes on Atqnews website and Facebook page. The online voting was done using Survey monkey software. Atqnews Facebook page has 23000 followers and the newsletter has a Weekly global audience of over a hundred thousand people. After a robust Debate while analysing the results the Award committee approved the results. Winners were presented with Award Certificates at Accra Weizo event in Ghana on the 15th of July.

In his remarks to the presentation of the award, Mr. Ikechi Uko explained that, ‘Mr. Bankole emerged the winner of the award following the shortlisting by an awards committee made up of Nigerian and Ghanaian travel writers and aviation experts.

‘After the nomination, the shortlisted individuals were subjected to public voting. At the close of the voting period, the Managing Director of Medview airlines, Mr. Bankole Muneer, surprisingly emerged as the winner of this award’, Mr. Ikechi concluded.

Mr. Muneer, in his acceptance speech thanked the organizers of the awards and for the process and efforts they have put in place to recognize the efforts of players in the aviation industry. He went on to reveal several of the plans of the airlines which includes the receiving of a new airline into its fleet, while he spoke about their plans to expand operations into the Dubai route and the success the airline is achieving on its London route, which he said that that they will be deploying a B747 soon! He promised the West Coast passengers of improved frequency in the coming months.
