Asset Management Limited has stated that he monthly average number of accidents involving the LAGBUS has said reduced by about 50 per cent in the last 18 months.
The Managing Director of the company, Babatunde Disu, said this while speaking with reporters during a six week training organized for 1,000 bus drivers in Lagos.
Disu, who stressed that the speed limit of the LAGBUS had been pegged at 80km/hr on expressways, said the management of the company had put in place mechanisms to check the excesses of its drivers.
He said: The speed limit is 80km/hr on expressways while for inner roads, the speed limit is between 40 and 60km/hr. We also have zero tolerance for accidents. This is how we have reduced the accident rate. In the last 18 months, accidents have reduced by 50 per cent despite having an increase in the number of buses on the roads by way of our franchise.
“We are continuously trying to work on the accident rate. We sanction drivers when they break traffic rules and we get complaints from the public and some of our members of staff that witness our captains drive rough.”
LAGBUS boss said who spoke on the nature of the medical tests that the drivers would undertake, said alcohol and drug tests are administered once in a while.
