Buhari Approves Railway Rehabilitation Projects

The ongoing railway modernisation projects initiated by the federal government during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan have been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Obviously impressed by the developments in the railway sectors, it was gathered that Buhari has given his blessing for the smooth execution of the projects, which are at various levels of completion. As a result of this, the Federal Ministry of Transport has given a directive to ensure that the terms of agreements entered into for ‎ the building and rehabilitation of railways be strictly adhered to by all the parties concerned.

Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transport, Alhaji Mohammed Sambo Bashar, who disclosed this after a meeting with Buhari at the State House, Abuja said the president was happy with the level the ongoing rehabilitation of railway across the country have reached.

Giving an insight into the meeting the president, Bashar explained that the ministry also presented the stages of the various projects on the railway rehabilitation programme and the developments at nation’s seaports, among other things.

“There are issues that the president thinks we should pay a lot of attention, especially in the execution of agreements that we have entered into. He emphasised on the need to adhere strictly to the terms of agreements and we are going to abide by that. Basically, those agreements are relating to the projects we entered into with the construction of railway, standard gauge lines and rehabilitation programmes,” he said.
